Why I Jetted Off to Malta on a Whim - And Why You Should Too!

Wit & Wisdom with Rúna, the journal blog series

Welcome to "Wit & Wisdom with Rúna," my journal-blog series where humour meets profound insight on the rollercoaster ride of life, leadership, and self-discovery.

In this journal-blog series, my intention is to authentically peel back the layers of my life's crossroads and delve into the quirky realities of self-discovery and leadership.

Join me as we navigate the complexities of breaking free from societal boxes, embracing our authentic selves, and finding contentment in being in the flow, all while laughing at the absurdity and beauty of it all.

"Wit & Wisdom with Rúna" is my journal blog; it explores the journey to trust my flow to become better, bolder, and brighter.

Why I Jetted Off to Malta on a Whim - And Why You Should Too!

From Calculations to Celebrations: Trading Spreadsheets for Starry Nights

You know, there's a funny thing about getting older—each year seems to shrink right before your eyes. One minute, you plan to learn salsa dancing "someday," and the next, you watch YouTube videos on how to do a basic step at a friend's birthday party because you never did take those classes.

Hit by a ton of birthday confetti!

A similar realisation hit me last week, like a ton of birthday confetti. It dawned on me: if our years are as precious as those previous slices of cake at a party, why am I hoarding my days like a miser with his gold? This epiphany struck me just in time for my dear friend Doris's 70th birthday bash—in sunny Malta, no less!

Leaving The Old Version of Me and Entering The New Version of Me!

Old Me would've hemmed and hawed, concocting a list of rational reasons why I couldn't, shouldn't, or wouldn't go. I'd imagine Old Me sitting with a calculator and a cup of coffee, tallying up reasons like "What about work?" or "Isn't it too extravagant?"

Thank goodness that Old Me is so last season. I have escaped that limiting box of mine.

Instead, New Me, armed with nothing but a suitcase and a sense of adventure, thought, "Why not?" Before I knew it, I was on a flight, wondering if Maltese wine was still as good as they say and whether I could pull off a party hat at my age. Well, I didn't use a party hat; I did, however, put on my gorgeous yellow hat!

And let me tell you, it was liberating! There I was, dancing the night away under the Maltese stars, sipping on selections of wine, and celebrating life without a spreadsheet or business thoughts in sight. It was a gentle reminder that my identity was shifting. It was the new version of me saying, "Stop counting every penny of your time and start spending it joyously in memorable moments".

Changing Your Questions, Changing Your Outlook

I bet some of you ponder your own "should I or shouldn't I?" life scenarios. Why not reframe those questions?

Instead of asking, "Why should I go on an adventure trip?" try, "Why can I go on an adventure trip?"

Instead of viewing travel as an escape from the daily grind or a business obligation, why not see it as a delightful detour on your journey?

Introducing my personally programmed AI chatbot!

And here's a thought—why not chat about it with my new ChatGPT Chat Bot, Leadership for a Better, Bolder & Brighter You

It's a chatbot that has been programmed with my books, blogs, No More Boxes methodology, Chinese Energies Wisdom by Nicholas Haines and more.

Imagine it as your digital sounding board, where you can explore your most adventurous impulses and get a nudge towards living a life you love. It's designed to help you understand your boxes, find ways to expand your box-based thinking, and even escape some of the limited boxes you feel are no longer serving you on your journey.

Ask questions about your personal growth or how to interact with people in a way that helps both you and the people around you to thrive better, not just survive.

My ChatGPT bot ‘Leadership for a Better, Bolder and Brighter You’ is not perfect. Still, it's very close to representing my methodology for living where you are in your flow, leaving your socially conditioned boxes, becoming more self-aware, deeply in love with your life, each day a bit better, bolder and brighter as your own leading light.

So, my friend, when was the last time you did something for the first time?

If my escapade to Malta taught me anything, it's that sometimes, the best decision is made on a whim. Here's to choosing joy and spontaneity and creating moments that make you fall even deeper in love with your life.

Reykjavík, Iceland, April 20th 2024 (It’s my birthday!)
