What if... we would stop talking about a wedding as her big day, and his last day of freedom?

I've noticed that in many cultures, people are still, in 2022, talking about weddings being HER BIG DAY and HIS LAST DAY OF FREEDOM!

I've often thought about this tradition and the energetic effect on a couple's marriage. What are the people they love the most, their family and friends, energy doing to the couple?

  • Are they equally going into that marriage?

  • Do they equally have the freedom to become the highest versions of themselves?

When we say "her big day" and "his last day of freedom", 'giving the bride away' etc., what are we energetically putting into their space?

Are we consciously creating space for the couple for a beautiful, blissful life together, or are we holding onto the old traditional gendered stereotypes in marriage?

Are we sleepwalking? And at what cost?

What would happen if we became more conscious, changed our language and talked about THEIR BIG DAY?

If we stopped calling weddings her big day and his last day of freedom, it would change things, and it could change the way we think about marriage. Wedding ceremonies would no longer be seen as a one-time event that marks the beginning of a woman's life-long subjugation to her husband. But rather as a milestone in the lives of two people who have chosen to commit themselves to each other.

Think about this. Your thoughts, words and actions matter!

If you do want to hold on to the old stereotypical roles of men and women for marriage, ask yourself two questions:

  1. "Where is that coming from?" and

  2. "What does it give you, holding on to that tradition?

If you, however, agree with me and think it would create more harmony, equity and prosperity for both partners to talk about marriage as the couple's BIG day! -by all means, do so!

I invite you to change your thoughts, words and actions, and you become the change you want to see.
