Elevated Musings: A Journey of Serendipity at 33,000 Feet

How a Flight Fueled by Music, Memories, and a Twist of Fate Rekindled My Sense of Adventure

Wit & Wisdom with Rúna: High-Flying Thoughts and a Serendipitous Surprise

There's something almost magical about being crammed into a metal tube, hurtling through the sky at 33,000 feet. You'd think it's just a fast way to get from point A to point B, but it's like a creativity booster shot for me. I've hatched some of my best ideas while wedged in those economy seats – you know, the ones that give you a free chiropractic adjustment.

So, I am embarking on my evening flight from Portugal, ready for a few hours of solitude with my thoughts. I had grand plans: dive into some books, listen to podcasts, and maybe even daydream a bit.

But, as luck would have it, my tech skills betrayed me. Note to self: Double-check your downloads. My podcast and music playlists were as sparse as a vegan at a barbecue.

But hey, I'm adaptable. I had a handful of songs from my Spotify playlist – a whopping 38 minutes of tunes.

Let's say I got to know them intimately on repeat. As fellow passengers drifted into their drooling slumbers, I hummed along quietly, of course. It's like when people (never me, obviously) discreetly pass gas on a plane, hoping the engine noise masks the sound but not the scent.

Each song sparked a memory – some bittersweet, like saying goodbye to my beloved dog, others invigorating, reminiscent of the energy I feel on stage, giving talks. Those uplifting melodies had me daydreaming about live concerts, questioning why I hadn't indulged in seeing these artists in person.

It was a mental note: "Rúna, life's happening now. Go see those artists!"

Landing at 2 am, I switched on my phone, still buzzing from my high-altitude musings. And there it was – a text from my son in Seattle inviting me to Billy Joel's concert. My treat, he said, for my birthday. Talk about timing! I was over the moon, replying faster than a teenager, "Is the pope Catholic? YES, YES, YES!"

It made me wonder. Was this just a coincidence? I was up there in the sky, lost in thoughts about music and concerts, and then – bam! – an invite to see Billy Joel.

There could be something to this whole 33,000-feet theory. An introspective bubble where thoughts and dreams get supercharged, ready to manifest.

Or the universe has a wicked sense of humour and loves a good plot twist. What do you think? Is it the altitude, or are we just riding the waves of life's serendipitous symphony?

Share your thoughts – I'm all ears, just like I was for those 38 minutes on repeat.
