Ep#54 | Communicating Yourself out of the Box

Simon Locke is an entrepreneur, innovator and communications thought leader. Always taking the path less traveled, Simon developed and launched CommunicationsMatch, a groundbreaking agency search and engagement platform with 5,000 listed firms and professionals in 12 countries, to help companies find communications agencies, consultants and freelancers that match needs. A founder of communications agencies and startups, he previously headed communications functions at Prudential Financial, Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank, speaks French and some Japanese, and has lived in seven countries.

He serves as an adviser to financial technology companies on communications and strategy. He has written more than 100 articles on communications and the behaviors that drive it and has interviewed thought leaders and influencers for his Communicators-to-Communicators 3-Minute Insights Video series. Guided by Socrates (know you know nothing) and Aristotle (for the things we need to learn by doing, we learn by doing), Simon brings a practical, philosophical and behavioral perspective to business and communications, as well as a commitment to sharing what worked on his journey and what didn’t.

Are you in a corporate box?

Simon was highly recommended by a fellow change maker that I should absolutely to have an episode with and boy was I not disappointed! I lost track of time because of our interesting discussion and picking his mind for this episode is simply not enough.

Simon shared his thoughts and views about the limiting boxes we find ourselves in. How these limiting boxes somehow pushes you to go outside the box to find a new one that works for you - in some way that my book with Nick Haines, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is all about :)

Some great takeaways from Simon:

  • Recognize the box that you're in to think outside them

  • Be Brave - take risks

  • Vision pushes you out of the box

  • Communicate with value

  • Self awareness is vital

  • Think outside the box and have a broad idea on how to engage people in different boxes

For as little as $3 a month you can support The Change Makers to open up for the limiting, isolating and divisive boxes that are no longer serving humankind.
